Brief 20. 6. 1941

Meine Lieben,

My Darlings,

Yesterday I received your telegram, and I responded right away by cable that you should not send me new papers to Stuttgart as this can easily lead to confusion. These days I got a message from Stuttgart that my appointment will be in September. I have tried to get an earlier appointment, we have to wait and see if this worked or not. Currently nothing is that simple. I believe by the time you receive this letter, you will have already spoken to ??? and heard all the details regarding this topic. They arrived June 16 in N.Y. and were picked up by Karl. Also, Betty Freitag and Carl have met in Lisbon. They were stuck there since October 16, and now they are finally allowed to board the ship to N.Y. on June 16. Since my Sponsorship is only from you, dear Martin, so please send me again a copy of a letter addressed to the American Consulate in Stuttgart, that you are aware that your father has a heart problem and it is your greatest wish to see him as soon as possible. Have this letter with your signature notarized. As soon as we get our visas, we’ll try to fly to Lisbon, for a 4-5 day train trip there would be still too tiring for me. Send the letter to the consulate right away.

Our weather has been so cold here that I wanted to take a hot water bottle with me to bed. Since Wednesday, it is hot again, although not as much as over there, at your place. Hope you are all healthy what I can state, thank God, also about us.

Greetings to all and warm kisses to you both from your father.

Tell Uncle Salomon that the old Mayor of ??? has passed away.
