Firmenbriefkopf Frankfurt, den 15. Juli 1939

Lieber Martin!

Dear Martin,

Your letter No 146, together with the enclosure came yesterday, which made me very happy; it is very beautiful, and the main thing is that you earned 5 dollars with it. You wrote that you did not know where to put the clothes. Can’t you keep them in a suitcase? (see remark about this on the margin). The Levy’s will also bring you some, for they cannot make use of all their stuff; but if you don’t know where to put them, they could store them for you until you can take them.

Re: emigrating to Mexico, I think we should wait and see if the Wetzlers can achieve something in Belgium. Mrs Wetzler visited us on Monday for coffee and we enjoyed this very much.

You wrote in your letter No 145 that I should not get so upset about the Nachmanns. But it is terrible how they had treated me. Job left me 1300 Marks for the clearing of the land, and, instead of giving me this sum, they had got new clothes and all sorts of new things. In addition, Job promised I could have the electric fridge, but Else sold it, etc. This week I received the first letter from him, and he seems quite content. I have asked you sever times about the present Berthel should have brought over to you, but had received no response about it. Apparently, she has kept it for herself.

The Levy’s come over today, for they are leaving on Wednesday. I will drive them to the airport. Ludwig Mayer (son of Max Mayer) is going to England on Thursday. Otherwise nothing else new today, warm kisses from your father.

Dear Martin,

We all loved the picture; keep doing so, and what I had said at your farewell will come true: You will make it in the photo business. Yesterday we said our good-byes to the Levy’s; it was nice, we had a fine goose. Mrs Gold had joined us as well. We have just been visited by Betty Freitag; she is leaving with Carl to Chile; it should cost 250 Marks. Ask around if something could be done from there for us as well. Father would prefer that to Mexico. As soon as Betty Freitag knows more she will let us know. Their climate is good and many people go there. Your schoolmate Watzi Arzt? Is going to England; Everybody is leaving and it upsets me greatly that we must stay; Belgium is not possible. Mrs Wetzler is a nice woman, and it is great we can be together with such people. Warm greetings from Joh. Kossmann.

Left side comment re: clothes:

Or can Mrs Sichel keep it for you?

On Top: warm greetings Hede. I loved the picture. Next time more.
