Lieber Martin Nr. 37

Lev(i)ys ziehen dann nach Mainz.

Hast Du Dein Mitbringsel bekommen?

Groß-Gerau, March 18, 1937

Dear Martin,

Glad to see from your card and letter that you dear Martin are doing well, just like us. I have been back at home from my Niersteiner trip for 14 days. It is very boring around here (unlike there). The only event of the day is to see Uncle S(alomon) every day, get the mail and then go back home. You wrote about Trude K(ahn) in your letter: firstly, that friendship has been long over and secondly: Trude has a job in Bonn since Febr. 1 at her relatives in Godesberg. Kurt received his visa this week and Aunt Hilda will go see him for a few days. Lilienfelds and Walter Marxson will go to the U.S.A. in May. Herr Kornsand of Leeheim must also report to Stuttgart this week. Likely soon thereafter he will go to New York. Sally visited Ruth and Paul in New York. Together, they sent us a card. I have not as of yet begun with my English; Father thinks that can still wait. I will give your greetings to Sa…? Herr Schott is sitting Shiva once more, for a sister of his who passed away at 82. Friedel’s cousin from Höchst in Odenw(ald) must also report to Stuttgart. We’ll host the Seder at Uncle S(alomon) as this is surely the last time that the whole family will be together.

Have you actually received the bracelet from Karl K(ahn)? Today I chatted with Siegfried Goldb(erger) who showed me very good pictures of Gerti and her mother. Gerti has not changed at all. Both look great. Hope soon to get a picture of you, dear Martin as well. Frau Kossmann’s sister-in-law, Frau Jonas Meyer of Worms was buried this Wednesday (heart attack). Frau Kossmann did not attend the funeral.

Father will not move to the city as of yet. Uncle Max will sell his business to Herr Lohmüller and the Haus Levy. The Levys will move to Mainz afterwards. Whether Father comes is still quite undecided. We’ve got a letter from Zürich: Bertha and Sofie are going to go South.

Regarding my mastery of cooking: I plan to make my first Dätscher [potato cake]. I’ll let you know in my next letter how it turned out.

As Hanna has learned from Herr Meier Ingelheim, the lift of the Marx[?] family is still in Cologne and it has been confiscated. Have you received your souvenir? Or is that too, still in the lift?

Kurt is leaving on the 27th. Martha …..? and Siegfried Guthmann’s cousin – her guarantee goes directly to St(uttgart).

Now I’ll stop as my knowledge is finished. Herbert is in Paris.

Stay healthy and give my greetings to all there and to you, dear Martin, the warmest greetings and kisses from your sister Hede. Ruth will stop having piano lessons as of April 1st. Manfred Kaufmann will move to Erez (Palestina) April 18. He very much looks forward to that. He has had four weeks of trainings in Berlin.
