Firmenbriefkopf FfM, d. 12. Aug. 1939

Lieber Martin.

Ich will ja noch keine Pläne machen und will erst mal sehen, was Wetzlers erreichen.

Dear Martin,

Your letter 148 has arrived Monday midday, as Mr Wetzler was visiting us, but, because of the Skat game, I picked it up from the letter box only after Mr. Wetzler was gone. He received a rejection from the Consulate of Belgium re: immigration, but he does not want to drop the issue that now must be arranged from there.

If this does not get cleared in a few weeks, they want to move to Frankfurt. No way should they spend the winter in Heubach. Our own trouble regarding a possible move is now over: we can stay.

I am glad you got your package from Berthel at last… for you can actually use its contents now.

When opening our package, be careful for you can use the cover and the bag. I also spoke with Julius Kahn. It costs 75 Pounds per person per year in Manchester, and 100 in London.

It takes two years until you can become a citizen, and then there are still 2.5 years left to spend there. This would be for 2 persons at 375 Pound = 1775 and this is totally impossible for you. So, let’s just wait and see! The Kahn’s want to send their stuff to Karl in advance, which is permitted, as he used to stay with them before his emigration. Once the things arrive, Karl wants to rent a flat and set up the furniture because he knows a young couple that could rent the place from him until his parents arrive in two years from then. You could do the same, once things have reached that point. I do not want to begin any plans, but see first what the Wetzlers achieve.

Wednesday Arthur Gottschall’s parents have left. Today Mr Sternberg, a friend of Uncle Salomon from Bad Nauheim will visit us. This week I received 1000 Marks from Colonia for the fire damage.

Otherwise I have nothing new. Greetings to all and warm kisses to you from your father.

Ms Elias sent a telegram on Friday, Aug 10: she had landed happily.
