Firmenbriefkopf alt

Nr. 53 Gross-Gerau, den 18. 07. 1937

Lieber Martin! Dein Brief vom 6.

Hirsch?

Familienheim in Nauheim untergebracht.

Number 53, Gross-Gerau, July 18th, 1937

Dear Martin,

Your July 6th letter has arrived exactly for the yahrzeit and I see that you spent the last year with the memories just like we did; now you are starting your second year in the U.S.A. Have courage, you will make it and be successful! You always send such nice reports from the cabin; I understand you are pretty much grilled; how much I would like to see you as a negro! Perhaps you could send a picture of you soon. Last night and this morning Father visited the synagogue; there are many empty seats there now. Father and Hede fasted until noon.

We have nothing new to tell; yesterday we went to the garden with Johanna Kahn to admire the gorgeous peaches on the trees and the new apples; I love to go out there, there is always something to eat there.

Yesterday we heard the news from Aunt Sophie that Margot is engaged; now that made us happy, just once to hear something pleasant; Margot has met the man two years ago: they had news about you.

Uncle Salmon did not feel well this week, but now he is doing better, this afternoon he sat with us in the yard; for sure he was ill because of the heat. The weather is always changing; on Thursday we had over 30 Celsius.

We called Bretten again, Uncle Josef is doing better. Tante Hans wants to come for a day soon. Father told her: I do not want you here! Both of you have to come for 14 days for the Holidays. Hopefully we will be around for it.

Tante Hilde also wrote to us: they want to move to Berlin by the end of the year. Berthel has still not heard anything regarding the U.S.A. and she wants to go so badly.

Tomorrow I am going to Frankfurt to visit Heinrich Hirsch, because I saw Gretel already.

Can you go see Aug. Hirsch from time to time? Or, are they on holidays? Can you think of something small that Jul. Kahn could bring you; it must not be much. Warm greetings and all the best for the 2nd year. Your Johanna Kossmann.

Dear Martin, I am glad to see from your lines that you are having such great weekends in your cabin; but I would also be very happy to hear more about your work week from Monday to Friday, especially what your current job is in the business. I know of course that right now is in general a quiet time. To make great progress now is not necessary, but I'm interested in hearing from you.

I do not know if you’ve already heard that Irma has her visa, but when she leaves, I do not know yet, I think she'll come to see us before. She promised me that she would take something with her for you. We are, thank God, all healthy and hope the same from you. For today still a warm kiss from your Father.

Hede sends her greetings.

Imagine, on Friday the Nauheimers were thrown out of the house, it is sold, the mother came to Mainz to the home where the others are (left margin) in the Jewish Family Home in Nauheim.
