Firmenbriefkopf Gross-Gerau, den 26. Juli 1938

Adressangabe Emilie Isaak Bornh(eim) Landwehr FfM

Lieber Martin

Deinen Bf. Hilda kommt dann nächste Woche hier her.

Grüsse an alle Bekannte.

Gross-Gerau, July 26th, 1938

Dear Martin,

I have not as of yet, received your letter No 98, but I do not want to make you wait for our news any longer. Th(ank) G(od) we are healthy and hope you are as well. We have been back home for 8 days and I like it here. I’ve just got a letter from Bernburg who wrote that Alex is going on a two-month trip next week, because he must give back his permission card Sept 30, like all Jewish traveling salesmen and so he won’t be able to travel again. What these two old people can do after that, I don’t know. I don’t think that Curt and Berthel could take already care of them now.

Hilda will come here next week.

You wrote that you had a meeting with the religion committee. Perhaps Max Meyer could become your Master of Prayer. He does that very well here. He would also go as your shammes [caretaker] if only they’d take him. It would be a truly good deed if you could help in this matter. He could even bring you some Sefers [copies of Torah rolls] and the curtain from Mrs Hirsch. The affidavit for him and his whole family is on its way.

Today I received 2,500 Marks from Schneider of Griesheim, now he owes me 1,000. Here the harvest is taking place full force, and Job’s corn (7 Morgen) will be cut Wednesday. He also had one Hectare barley that he sold on the stalks. He has already sold all the other land and would like to sell this two as well.

Hoping to soon get news from you, warm kisses from your Father.

We enjoy being at home and there is always enough work to do; we have not gone to the fields yet; if there are no fruits, it is not interesting. Sig. and Rosel come on Friday, which is great. How long will it be until all are gone, and then what will happen to us I ask myself.

We heard from Aunt Hans today that she won’t come to Jahrzeit; Meta and children will visit them; she also wrote that Rudi isn’t there anymore he went to the countryside. Father had such a great time that he now has to lose weight; 10 pounds overweight is too much. Now we are expecting Aunt Hilda and so we are not alone here with the Kaufmanns; they were so happy when we returned. Otherwise all is well. Greetings from Mrs. Johanna Kossmann. Greetings to all.
