Firmenbriefkopf Nr. 95 Gross-Gerau, den 22. Juni 1938

Lieber Martin.

Dear Martin,

Thank God we are healthy and hope you are as well. Hede has already told you all the news before me.

Heini was lucky to find a place right away. He gets 15 dollars/week and his travel costs. The first week his boss travels with him and after that he must go on his own. He leaves Mondays and returns Saturdays. Hopefully he remains lucky with this.

Hopefully the Gutmanns can bring you the sweets and other things. You had asked if we still went to the Synagogue. The Jews never ever had this much time to do so before. Right now we go mornings and evenings to Otto Hirsch who had very suddenly passed away with pneumonia last week.

Max Mayer says the prayers, as he had learned a lot from Hartogson. About the curtains I must tell you the same, as I did to Mrs. Hirsch: as long as the community is still together, she cannot have them and even after that, the issue has to be dealt with through the Rabbinical office with the permission of the District office.

Yesterday we went to Mainz and on Sunday they came to us.

You should see our little garden: it is gorgeous, and everyone loves it. It is 30 Celsius today, very hot and dry.

This week I received the rest of the 2,000 from Scherer. Otherwise there is nothing new in the business.

To mention the Synagogue once more: if all who want to leave are gone we can no longer attend the service. Warm kisses and greetings from your Father.

Warm greetings to you, we hope you are doing quite well. We love it here at your family’s home. All else you hear from them. Friendly greetings on behalf of my beloved husband as well your Mrs. Kaufmann.
