Lieber Martin 23. VI. 40

Oben am Rand: Herzliche Grüße Hede. Grüße an Alle.

Herzl. Grüsse an Dich und an alle Joh. Kossmann.

Dear Martin,

On the top margin: Warm greetings Hede. Greetings to all.

Your letter of May 22 arrived June 17 and your airmail of June 14 arrived today, so a regular letter requires 3 weeks and the airmail 9 days. I was glad to hear you are well; thank God, we are all healthy as well. Thank you very much for sending the sponsorship, but we’ll still have to wait for the opportunity to leave. The only chance currently is via Russia and it is very slow. By the time our turn comes, perhaps we can take a German ship again. These days things change from day to day. Your letter of June 10 with the copy will arrive next Sunday. As soon as I get word from Stuttgart that the sponsorship arrived, I will thank Harry for it.

You had suggested Mrs Kossmann should write to her cousin directly, which she has already done. But I would think it useful if you yourself wrote to her and stressed the urgency of the matter; Mrs Kossmann cannot do so from here. It is also better if you write to her in English as she does not seem to understand German very well.

Mrs Kossmann has heard nothing from her siblings; perhaps you could write to Gina to find out what’s happened to them.

We heard from Lori and Gustav this week; they are in N.Y. and doing well; they have met Salomon Feitler on the street; he also lives there with his daughter and son-in-law. Let Uncle Salomon know that his friend Hermann Frohmann has his appointment in Stuttgart on July 2.

As I’ve heard the other day Carl Nachmann’s and Schwarz’ stuff is coming up for auction; you could let Job know this. Greetings to all and warm kisses to you from your father.

Have you thanked the Golds and paid for the mailing? For they have no money.

Dear Martin! Sorry for bothering you, but I must ask for your help, for I have nobody else to turn to. Be so kind and write to my cousin regarding the affidavit; I’ve asked her but there was no response; I also mentioned that you too would write to her; it is so sad that I hear nothing from my children and Gina. God knows where they are or if they are still alive at all. I cannot get these thoughts out of my mind, especially during nights. Julius Kahn’s appointment about whether they can leave is scheduled for July 9. Frieda is going crazy about this.

Hede’s cooking skills are not great; she is not interested in learning. Once more the addresses: Mrs. Wme Goldstone 23 West 73 Street N.Y. and again Gina Korngold Ad(resse) Rue de la Vannes 9. Bruxelles.

Friedel Schott wrote he is well; lucky for him.

We love your letters: they are our sunshine; I have not heard from Clara Mainzer, even though I had asked about her. Warm greetings to you and everybody. Joh. Kossmann.
