Frankfurt a/m, d. 21. XI. 39

Lieber Martin. Dein Brief vom 5. Was treibst du jetzt?

Dear Martin,

Your letter of Nov 5 arrived yesterday and so we now know that you landed once more at home. I do not understand why you get no letters from us. I have sent so far 4 airmail letters, 3 of them to Corpus. Hope you receive this one. I am glad you got ahead so fast in Corpus. I knew right away there was something funny as I heard that the man was just 40 years old. First I thought it was an older gentleman looking for a younger helper. But I thought right away he was only after the money. Glad that you were careful – keep it that way! It is not that bad if the trip cost you something. Have you got your money back from him? What are you doing these days? You may have lost your old job meanwhile? Write to me about everything!

Yesterday once again I spoke to Ida Hirsch at the station and I asked her to write to you about everything which she will do. She is leaving from Genoa Dec 24. I have already written to you that in Stuttgart they are up to No 16,000 who have been requested to send in the papers; so I hope next year it will be our turn, for the higher the numbers are the faster they are processed, for until then there will be many who have already left. I also wrote to you that when the sponsorship needs to be renewed, my name should be listed as Michael, not as Emil, so that it corresponds to my birth certificate. They check everything very thoroughly in Stuttgart.

This week I spoke to a Mr Mayer of Essenheim, who was in Stuttgart and cannot get his visa because his name in the sponsorship papers was spelled with ‘ei’. But our case can still wait until I write to you. One cannot tell today what will be the case tomorrow.

Have not heard anything from Wetzler. Greetings to all, also to Salomon, Job, Else and Adele and warm kisses from your father.

I have written to Salomon 8 days ago to congratulate him
