Lieber Martin!

Bevor der Brief geschlossen wird, sollst Du auch ein Lebenszeichen von mir haben. Mit Deinem interessanten Briefen freuen uns sehr. Die erste Frage von "Schlomm[?]" war, als er hörte, daß Du Arbeit hast, "was verdient er?"; worüber wir uns alle besonders Dein Vater, sehr amusierten. Sonst ist hier s. ziemlich alles beim Alten. Die Kundschaft erkündigt sich als nochmal nach Dir. - Herr "Osswald" ist dieses Jahr nicht bei uns, dafür ein netterer Herr, dem gestern nachmittag dein Pappa seine Karten[?] Kunst + Streichhölzer Kuriositäten zeigte. Ich glaube bestimmt daß es diesesmal besser abgeht, als das letzte mal!

Else + ich hätten bald Lust Dir zu folgen und bitte ich Dich mal hin & da anzuklopfen, ob jemand von den Lieben[?] dort bereit is, für uns die B'schaft zu übernehmen. Ich würde Dir diese mitteilen, wann unser Entschluß positiv ist. Vorläufig habe ich noch nicht darüber gesprochen, aber ich glaube, daß b????? K??? auch für uns ???? ???? ???? werden wird. Jedenfalls war es mir erwünscht zu wissen, ob auch für Else + mich jemand da ist?

Zu dem bevorstehenden Jahreswechsel wünsche ich Dir von ???? alles, alles Gute + hoffe, daß Die in deiner neuen Heimat alle deinen Wünschen in Erfüllung gehen + deine Pläne gelingen mögen. Auch bitte ich dich den lieben Verwandten meinen herzlichsten Wünschen übermitteln zu wollen.

Dear Martin,

Before sealing the envelope, I want that you should also get a sign of life from me. You really made us happy with your interesting letter. The first question Salomon asked, when he heard that you'd found work: "How much does he make?" Of course, we all found that amusing, especially your father. Otherwise things here are much the same as they were. The customers are asking about you like always, Herr Osswald isn't with us this year, but a nicer gentleman who yesterday afternoon showed your papa his cards, art, and collection of matchbooks. I'm confident that it'll go better this time than it did the last.

Else and I may soon be interested in following you, so I'd ask you to please inquire a bit here and there, to see if any of the family there would be prepared to give us the affidavit. I'll let you know when our decision is finalized. For now I still haven't spoken about it, but I think [???]. In any case, I'd like to know if there's someone who'd be there for Else and me?

For the coming new year I wish you [?] all the best, and I hope that in your new homeland, all of your wishes will come true, and your plans will prove successful. I ask you to please also give our relatives my heartfelt wishes.
