Firmenbriefkopf alt Nr. 48 Gross-Gerau 2. 6. 1937

Lieber Martin!

No. 48, Gross-Gerau, June 2nd, 1937

Dear Martin,

I believe you that you were disappointed that Father wouldn’t come, but I can assure you that this had nothing to do with the letter from M(ax) Herz; there is just too much to do with giving up the business; it is better that Father can relax here a little. Monday morning they are all leaving; today I got my visa and I still have enough to do; I will write you from my trip and hope to receive your report in turn.

The Niersteiners came over for Sunday dinner; it will be a while until they go to Mainz; it just does not work so fast – same as with the Kahns; they want to visit Karl but surely it won’t happen before August. Frieda will go crazy if she cannot see Karl soon, I’ve never seen such an anxious woman.

Feitler called Groß-Rohrheim last night: Hilde is engaged with a man in Leipzig who is into fats and oils. You know, dear Martin, how much I envy you: I, too, would love to have such inexpensive pineapples; perhaps until Saturday we’ll get some cherries. Hede is studying English, while I am listening to the radio (Faust from Paris) she is sitting outside in the other room, but Father knows many words and so he is of great help to Hede.

Harold’s parents are already over there – so that worked really fast. Do you still get many letters? Do you hear from Rudi? How is he doing? That’s it for today, with warm greetings to you and all from your Johanna Kossmann.

Dear Martin,

You thought Max Herz’ letter caused me to change my mind, but this is not at all the case. I had already told you about not going, even before the letter from Max arrived, and when I saw what he had to say about this I said it looked like we had talked about this before. It is like this: had I come this year, you could not have made yourself available to me so much, but for that I promise you, if all stay healthy I’ll come next year. As I mentioned before, another reason why I cannot come this year is that there is so much work to do with closing the shop, finishing the paperwork, getting the payments in – all this takes a lot of time.

As I’ve heard tonight, Hilda Meininger who got married and lives in Bulgaria had a little girl.

Monday I’ll go to Nauheim for 2-3 weeks, but send your letters here, they will be forwarded to me. All the best and many kisses from your Father.

Your monthly allowance will be sent tomorrow.
