Firmenbriefkopf 4. 1. 1937

Lieber Martin!

Morgen gehen 20 m (Mark) an dich ab.

Dear Martin,

Your letter arrived just before my birthday, and so I was doubly pleased, as you've made me such a beautiful promise, and I hope and wish for you, that you'll be able to get further in America than I was able to get in Germany, but that's something that one can only achieve by being diligent and frugal. I don't mean to imply that you should skimp on food, something Frau K. has already written about. Perhaps you could live and eat with a German family like Karl Kahn, and like the Hirsches' boys have also done. Karl Kahn pays 8 dollars for this, and is very well taken care of. Why don't you write anything about your business, which is still being built up, and which would interest me greatly? Do you see a future in it? Do you speak with Max Herz, or is it too early for you to have perfected your English? I hope to get your things to you soon. The old "Cigar Joseph" of Darmstadt died last week. Tomorrow 20 marks will be sent to you. Otherwise I've nothing new for today. Send my greetings to all the relatives, Adolf Flörsheimer, his daughter, as well as the Hirsch family, and many kisses for you from your Father.

I really enjoyed the little picture and thank you very much for it.
