Lieber Martin,

Hast Du in zwischenzeit nochmal an Sally geschrieben?

Dear Martin,

I was happy to see from your last letter that you are praise God, doing well, which I can say, prais God about us as well. All 3 of us are healthy which is the main thing. We are staying with Aunt Selma, and you can imagine how lucky we are. Job returned home Friday night. We hope Uncle Max returns this week as well. Uncle Jakob sent a very nice letter to Aunt S. and Max, and also to father that if needs be, he would help them, and then I remembered the saying: from something good cannot come anything bad. It would be great for Aunt Selma and Uncle Max. Heini Hirsch’ wife leaves for the U.S.A. Monday evening. Albert must have already arrived last week. Sadly we ca no longer live in our home, but will have to move to Frankfurt as soon as possible. Hopefully we’ll have a chance soon to emigrate. We were much surprised that you had sent our papers to Frankfurt. Do you still meet Hilde and Erich ??? Guthmann, or have you at least spoken to them lately? What about the families of August Hirsch and Karl Kahn? Have you meanwhile written to Sally again? Job’s father and siblings all live now in Frankfurt. Just across the street from Uncle Sal. Uncle Sal looks good and was very happy about your birthday wishes. Father and I were visiting them for his birthday and it was very nice. I enclose a small picture, although it is not that great. But I have nothing better than this one.

We have no radio anymore. Only my camera. As soon as we are in Frankfurt, I will have English classes again. Have you meanwhile spoken to Walter Blum again? Mrs Kaufmann is staying with her niece in Frankfurt until her husband returns. Sadly I no longer have your wonderful powder compact either. Only the brooch and I am rather proud of it. Now I will close, dear Martin, give my greetings to all, to the Herz family as well. Hopefully we’ll see each other soon, so God will. Stay healthy; warm greetings and kisses from your sister Hede.

Why should I go on complaining to you; we are healthy; hope for a solution soon, please think of me as well, for we have bitter days behind us. Gina was wondering if you had received her letter. I will write to Willi Siegel promptly, if he could help us; believe me it is terrible for us to have to make a new home with our broken things and renovate the house that had been one family’s home for almost 70 years now – we want to keep our trust in God. Sigmund is not back yet, either. ????? all at home??????

Greetings from Johanna Kossmann

Go see Jacob Marx, Philipp’s brother so they don’t worry
