| My Darlings, Your letter of May 27 arrived yesterday and informed me that you are thank God in good health which I can tell about us as well. It is strange that Rudo can write to you now; anyway he thought you could pay for his passage. Rudo, Ema and Gertrud, as well as Albert have never before written to me a single sentence. But precisely because of this I would very much hope that at least Aunt Hans could join Albert, and I would gladly help her in this, if only I could. But I cannot even help myself, let alone you; nevertheless I will try with the Aid office, even if I have little or no hope. I have sent a telegram to an acquaintance in Lisbon if he could get me earlier tickets for the ship, as I heard he has done so with others. I have little hope; either way the months will pass by. I have not heard from Stuttgart as of yet; for sure we will not have our invitation before August. Currently they do not offer appointments, as the June quota is full. By the time we can come, it will have passed Labor Day, so at least I do not need to buy a straw hat. Have you heard anything about Herbert? He could for sure find work as a farmer, and what about Ema? Does she live in Switzerland? And who and what is her husband? Ask Rudo, I would like to know. Perhaps you could send me her address. Aunt Hilda wrote to me that Berthel and Walter signed a one year contract with an Indian hospital in Takoma in the northwestern part of the U.S.A. in Washington State, at the Pacific Ocean, close to the Canadian border. If they don’t like it, or are not liked, there is a 60 day notice. Their travel to and fro is covered. Hopefully they find there a permanent job. I would be very happy on their and their parents’ behalf. Give my greetings to all and warm kisses to you two from your father. Father did not leave me much room, so just quick greetings. The time approaches when I will be left behind, all alone. Every day, people are leaving… |
