28. IV. 41 Meine Lieben, Euren Brief vom 26. 3. | My Darlings, I received your letter of March 26 yesterday and was happy to hear you are doing well. I am wondering if Aunt Hans will receive your package at all, since in the meantime she had moved, but we are hoping that it will be forwarded, especially since I cannot send anything from here. Alfred has passed away on Jan 24, 1941 and she does not know this. I had sent him ten letters from here, that all came back with the above note. Your package from N.Y. via Fortra came Feb 27 via Bremen and March 1 I confirmed the receipt of it to you. But the fate of the 2 packages from Chicago is unclear – I doubt we will ever get them, maybe after a very long time. I heard from different sources that people were sent packages from America, but so far none of them arrived. If you want to send another one, then send it again via the Fortra. Perhaps bacon, fat, butter, cocoa and eggs. You will be amazed about our greatest wishes. If you have not done anything for Stuttgart and the shared papers, so wait until I send you a telegram, because it is still a long time until Oct 17 and currently everything us so unclear. Julius Kahn has been working on his leaving for two years now and hopes to get to go to Lisbon 20 May. They sort of know that Carl has a new job. You must have heard that as well. Dear Martin, do you have a chance to get in on that business as well? I have sent the address of Mrs K.’s cousin two times already. There is not much else new, one day passes like another. Currently the weather is alright, and we hope it will soon get warmer. Hope your father had a great holiday. Give my greetings to the in-laws and everybody else and warm kisses from your father. I have just got news that Rabbi Dr. Levy of Mainz has passed away in Berlin at a hotel, due to a heart attack caused by an upset. He was on his way to Lisbon with his wife and wanted to go to their children in New York. Tell Uncle Salomon and Aunt Selma. He was 58. It is a tremendous loss. He was an outstanding human being. |
