Firmenbriefkopf 27.12. 1936 Nr. 25 Lieber Martin! Vater | December 27, 1936 (Number 25) Dear Martin, After an 11 day gap, today your letter number 23 arrived, and I was happy to see that you're healthy; I can report the same of us. The holidays are past us now; yesterday the Niersteiners were here and we went with them to Frankfurt to go to the Schumann [Circus], but as it was sold out for the midday and evening shows, we went instead to the Cafe Esplanade and had coffees, and then drove home again at 6:30, and the Niersteiners stayed for dinner with us and then drove home at 9. That was yesterday's entertainment. Midday today we'll go with Hede to Frankfurt, as she wants to visit Blanka and Trude, and we'll visit the Heinrich Hirschs, and if we can get tickets for the Schumann (which I doubt), then maybe we'll go. --- In the meantime, I went to the ticket booth for Schumann and we just bought three tickets for this evening at 2.50 a piece. As I gathered from your lines, you have a lot of unpleasantness with Kurt. It would be best if you didn't worry about him any more, if you can't help him, and it's much more comfortable for me if you don't get together with him. Apparently you're getting together with the Herzes less too ever since August Hirsches are over there, which doesn't seem right to me. Uncle Max has gone out of his way for you, and you can hardly be too grateful to him, and above all be attentive to Käthchen. Enclosed you'll find a letter, and you can find everything there. No one wants to take anything with, so you'll need to wait until someone turns up. I gave Kahn's boys two sausages, and I hope that you'll at least get these. Today Karl Kahn also wrote, very pleased: he's also earning 15 dollars and pays 8 dollars to a German family for room, breakfast and dinner. Heartfelt greetings and a kiss from your father. |
