Firmenbriefkopf Nr. 21 29. November 1936 Lieber Martin, Dein Bf. Your letter number 18 arrived on the 27th of November and number 19 on the 28th. I was pleased that the confections arrived in time for your birthday, and hopefully they tasted good. From your description, it sounds like the relatives were very attentive to you and celebrated your birthday nicely. I find it understandable that Max Herz isn't so willing to offer the affidavit for Curt, but it'll be better for you if you don't mention it anymore when at the Herzes or Winters. As I wrote to you recently, Aunt Hilda wrote to both about the affidavit, and I also wrote to both. Udo wrote Hilda recently that he'd send tickets and also some money if the Chicagoans would offer the affidavit and sort out some work for Curt. Have Max and Sophie mentioned anything to you about the letters from Hilda? Berthel is going to visit Curt for a few days in Amsterdam and will return on Tuesday. Aunt Hilda sent her the copy of your letter number 19, so they don't get their hopes up too much. As much as I wish for him, that he'll be helped, it pains me, as it's such a pity when a young man has no work and doesn't earn anything. Arthur Gottschall is today, and Kahn's boys set off tomorrow. I brought them a Leica for you today, but they're not yet sure whether they'll be able to bring it. They still didn't know, as an uncle of theirs is coming midday, and will bring at least two pieces. I'll have to see then, whom else I might give it to. I thank you much for the bequest for my birthday, and I'll see to it that I invest it wisely for you. Now you've seen what it means to work the night shift, that's something you'd never have dreamed of doing here. But it doesn't matter! The main thing is, that you have work and bread. For today, a kiss from your Father. Greetings to all our relatives. |
